How to start and complete 36 days of type

Sharing my process and learnings

Process:

1.Choose a theme:
This helps keep things organised and brings you one step closer to the end result. It can be driven by color, style, a message, a font, a particular artefact or it could even be random, but plan the randomness. Plan how chaotic or organised. Plan, it’ll take you a long way.

I chose buildings and architecture as my theme for 2020’s 36 days

2. Start:
Getting started is important. Once you begin you’d get somewhere.

3. Continue:
Continue either by planning or executing. Not everyday is a doing day and not everyday is a thinking day but each day is either of the two. Don’t limit yourself to one idea per day or one execution — let your mind flow at the speed it wants to. Do as it comes, call as you want it done.

4. Don’t panic:
Try not to be overcritical of your work, don’t compare your progress with others and don’t be disheartened by looking at half the picture. This is an investment in your skill and yourself and do it for no one else but your own self. Don’t panic if you think you wouldn’t get there, be patient and trust yourself.

5. Learn from each day:
Keep tabs on what worked and what didn’t. A place? A way of planning? A stationary? A software? See what helps you be more efficient and re-evaluate how to approach the next day.

6. Seek inspiration:
Inspire yourself everyday during the process. Nature is an amazing artist, look around, step out, see the world around you and let your senses enrich themselves with raw inspiration. I truly believe you subconsciously make art from the remnants of your conscious reception.

7. Document your process:
All journeys are filled with priceless learnings. Document. Click pictures of your process, explorations, discarded ideas. They make for an excellent montage of notes to refer back to and learn from. You would be surprised how your own work can inspire you over time.

Hope this helps and motivates you to try out 36 days of type and complete it successfully.

A 36 days of type enthusiast
